Once across the Black Forest

The Kinzig flows for 65 kilometres from the heights near Lossburg and Alpirsbach in the east to the vineyards near Gengenbach in the west. In one of the most diverse valley landscapes of the low mountain range lie the small towns and rural villages of the Kinzigtal holiday region in Baden-Württemberg.

Idyllic as in a picture book. Extensive meadows, fruit trees, pastures and farmland - the Kinzigtal and its long side valleys along the lower course of the river have a tranquil appearance. The landscape along the upper course of the Kinzig River is more pristine, where the mountain flanks of the low mountain range slide steeply and wooded into one another. The Kinzig valley and its more than 25 side valleys impress with a very varied natural and cultural landscape over only a few kilometres. Like little pearls, romantic half-timbered towns, stately Black Forest farms and small farming villages enchant.

One of these pearls is Haslach, one of the most beautiful half-timbered towns in the Black Forest. Haslach combines history and small-town everyday life: holidaymakers will enjoy historic half-timbered houses and winding alleys as well as smart cafés and restaurants, shops, museums and churches. The small town in Baden is located in the middle of the Black Forest, but its climate is mild in the Upper Rhine region.

A unique flair - Haslach developed as a classic market town from the Middle Ages onwards. Its market streets and squares, wide for the time, have been completely preserved to this day and, together with the half-timbered narrow residential and craftsmen's alleys, give the town, which is part of the German Half-Timbered Houses Route, a unique flair: over 90 market days a year, numerous small shops, shophouses, cafés, bistros and restaurants make the traffic-calmed half-timbered old town a lively experience. The pretty villages of Schnellingen and Bollenbach are still agricultural. Special gems are the Black Forest Traditional Costume Museum in the baroque Capuchin monastery, the Hansjakob Museum in the Freihof and the historic "Blessing of God" silver mine.

The nicknames of the town of Gengenbach also sound enticing: town of towers, gates and half-timbered houses, romantic gem, Baden's Nice... Visitors can expect a charming small town with a historic town centre, fortified towers and gates, listed houses, picturesque alleys and quiet corners. The villages of Bermersbach, Reichenbach and Schwaibach are rural. Nature is diverse: wide Kinzig and narrow Black Forest valleys with lush meadows, rich fields and fruit trees, surrounded by vineyards, rolling hills and mountain ranges with dense deciduous and fir forests and magnificent panoramic views. The climate is mild and the area is blessed with many thousands of hours of sunshine. Gengenbach is famous for its world's largest Advent calendar. From 30 November to 6 January, the town hall enchants visitors with its 24 atmospherically illuminated windows. The rafting and transport museum, on the other hand, is open every year. It shows in detail the history of the rafters in the Kinzig valley and how important this means of earning a living was for the entire Black Forest until the 19th century. The last raft sailed down the Rhine in 1894.

This and much more can be experienced when you rent one of the many holiday flats or holiday homes. Pets are allowed at many of the addresses. If you like your temporary domicile, you should keep it in mind - the chances of visiting the Kinzigtal again are very high.
